Re-score for me — drag the dial — every chart recolours live for your heat & sea limits 27°C · sea 29°C
Default 27 °C is the upper edge of the Holiday Climate Index "ideal comfort" band (Scott, Rutty, Amelung & Tang, 2016). Above this, most warm-tourism travellers report measurable discomfort.
Default 29 °C is the Beach Climate Index "bathtub" line (Morgan et al.) — where the sea stops being refreshing and starts feeling like a warm bath.

Three of the four big weeks here move with Easter
Sitges is usually planned by month, which is the wrong unit. Carnival runs from Dijous Gras to Dimecres de Cendra, that is Ash Wednesday, so it is pinned to Easter rather than to February: 12 to 18 February in 2026, but 4 to 10 February in 2027, according to the Ajuntament's own notice. The Corpus flower carpets are pinned the same way, falling on the Sunday after Corpus Christi, which puts them on 7 June in 2026 — about 30 carpets, roughly 1,200 people and 370,000 carnations, laid overnight and walked over by the procession the next day, so there is no second viewing.
The beach season is defined by Easter too. The municipal beach ordinance sets the bathing season from the start of Setmana Santa to the weekend following 15 October, which in 2026 means it ends on 18 October. That window is not decorative: it is when animals are barred from every Sitges beach except Vallcarca, and when the smoke-free rules at Sant Sebastia and La Fragata apply. Because Easter Sunday can land anywhere between 22 March and 25 April, an early-April trip can meet a fully serviced beach one year and an unserviced one the next.
Only the film festival stays put. Founded in 1968 and described by the town's tourist board as the world's first fantasy film festival, its 59th edition runs 8 to 18 October 2026.

What is the best time to visit Sitges?
June. Highs average about 25C on the 1991-2020 normal and 26C over 2020-2024, it is the driest of the warm months at roughly 33mm, and the crowd index sits at 66 against August's 100. September looks tempting but begins the wet run at about 88mm over 10 rain days.
When is Sitges Carnival?
It moves every year, because it runs from Dijous Gras to Dimecres de Cendra, which is Ash Wednesday. That put it on 12 to 18 February in 2026 and puts it on 4 to 10 February in 2027. The two big night parades are the Rua de la Disbauxa on the Sunday and the Rua de l'Extermini on the Tuesday.
When are the Sitges flower carpets?
Corpus weekend, which follows Easter: Sunday 7 June in 2026. Around 30 carpets are laid through the previous night by roughly 1,200 people using some 370,000 carnations, and the Sunday procession walks straight over them. The festival was declared a Festa Patrimonial d'Interes Nacional in 2023.
When is the Sitges film festival?
8 to 18 October 2026, for the 59th edition of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, founded in 1968. It is the one Sitges fixture that does not float with Easter. October is also the wettest month here at about 93mm over 10 rain days, so the festival rather than the weather is what fills the town.
Can you take a dog to the Sitges beaches?
Only to Vallcarca during the bathing season. The municipal beach ordinance bans animals from the beaches for the whole season, which runs from the start of Setmana Santa to the weekend after 15 October — 18 October in 2026. Assistance and therapy dogs are exempt and may use any beach.
Are there official nudist beaches in Sitges?
Not in the bylaw. The published municipal beach ordinance designates no beach as nudist and does not mention nudism at all; what it regulates is smoking, animals, fires and sky lanterns, metal detecting, breakwater access and beach weddings. Any list of official nudist beaches you find online reflects custom, not regulation.
How many days do you need in Sitges?
Two nights outside the event weeks — the old core is an afternoon, the coast towards Garraf another day. During the film festival, 8 to 18 October in 2026, allow longer or skip it entirely: eleven days of screenings spread across venues in the town change what the place is for, and the old core stops being a quiet afternoon.
Is Sitges worth visiting in winter?
Only for Carnival. The crowd index reads 0 in December and 3 in January, the lowest of the year, highs sit near 14C and no seasonal beach services run until Setmana Santa. February is the exception, jumping to 25 on the same index, and that jump is Carnival week rather than the weather.
What is the rainiest time of year in Sitges?
September and October, at about 88mm and 93mm across roughly 10 rain days each — nearly three times June's 33mm. That is the same stretch in which the bathing season legally stays open, to the weekend after 15 October. February is the driest month at about 34mm.
What rules apply on Sitges beaches?
Sant Sebastia and La Fragata are smoke-free. The ordinance also bans fires of any kind, including sky lanterns and pyrotechnics, metal detecting to protect archaeological remains, and access to the breakwaters. Minor breaches carry fines up to 300 euros; unauthorised beach weddings run to 1,500 or 3,000.
Frequently asked questions about visiting Sitges
When is the best time to visit Sitges?
May is the highest-scoring month (9/10 on the Holiday Climate Index). Typical conditions: 15–22°C (8 rainy days). The top three months by score are May, June, September.
What is the worst time to visit Sitges?
August is the lowest-scoring month (7/10, capped by extreme heat). Typical conditions: 22–30°C (6 rainy days).
Is Sitges too hot in summer?
2 months (July, August) trip the heat deal-breaker in our scoring: apparent temperature crosses the comfort cap, so even with clear skies and low rain the score is held down. Plan around it if heat tolerance is low.
When are crowds lowest in Sitges?
Search-interest seasonality (Google Trends 2021-2025) is lowest in December and peaks in August. Interest tracks both in-trip visitors and lead-time planners, so treat it as a "destination is on people's minds" signal rather than literal arrivals.
Which months in Sitges have good weather but fewer tourists?
April (climate 9/10, crowd index 38) and May (climate 9/10, crowd index 45) — shoulder months with above-average climate and below-median search-interest. Often the best value-for-weather trade.
What is the UV index in Sitges by month?
UV peaks at 8 (high) in July and is lowest in December at 1 (low). Monthly peak values: Jan 2, Feb 2, Mar 4, Apr 6, May 7, Jun 8, Jul 8, Aug 7, Sep 5, Oct 4, Nov 2, Dec 1.
What is the UV index in Sitges in July?
July is the peak UV month in Sitges, with a daily-peak UV index of 8 (high). Apply SPF 30+, wear sunglasses, and seek shade during midday hours.
How high can UV get in Sitges on the sunniest days?
Most days look like the monthly average, but on the sunniest ~1 in 10 days UV climbs higher than the mean suggests. July is the worst case: typical days average UV 8 (high), but the top 10% of days reach UV 9 (very high) — and even higher. Months where the sunniest days routinely exceed the typical reading: February, March, April, June, July, August, September. Plan sun protection for the worst case, not the average.
Is air quality in Sitges bad for travelers?
PM2.5 (fine-particle pollution) exceeds the WHO sensitive-group guideline (15 µg/m³) in 4 months: January, February, March, December. The worst month is February with a typical-day mean of 12 µg/m³ (moderate); on the worst 10% of days PM2.5 reaches 22 µg/m³ (unhealthy for sensitive) and higher. People with asthma, heart conditions, or sensitive children may want to avoid these months or limit outdoor activity. Source: CAMS via Open-Meteo.
