The beach season ends three times, on three different dates
Rimini's summer is defined by regional decree rather than by weather, and the decree does not end all at once. Under Emilia-Romagna's 2026 bathing ordinance, mandatory lifeguard cover runs 16 May to 20 September, 09:30 to 18:30 daily. Official water-quality monitoring runs slightly longer, to 27 September. But the beach establishments themselves are permitted to stay open until 2 November.
That leaves roughly six autumn weeks in which the beach is legally open, the sun is out and the sea is still warm — with nobody on the lifeguard tower and nobody testing the water.

What is the best month to visit Rimini?
June or September. Both sit inside the lifeguarded season, avoid the July peak near 29C which is also the crowd peak, and keep the Adriatic warm enough to swim. September is the better of the two for value, since Italian holidays end in late August and rates fall while the sea stays warm.
When is the beach season in Rimini?
It depends which part you mean, and the dates genuinely differ. Lifeguards are mandatory 16 May to 20 September; water-quality monitoring runs to 27 September; beach establishments may open until 2 November. So there is an autumn window when the beach operates with neither lifeguards nor testing.
Is Rimini worth going to?
As a beach resort with a serious Roman and Renaissance core, yes — it is not only a strip of sunbeds. The Ponte di Tiberio, begun under Augustus and finished in 21 AD, and the Malatesta Temple are both genuinely significant. Fellini was born here and the museum devoted to him is the best modern addition.
