April to early June, and September to mid-December. Both avoid the two demand peaks — the northern winter holidays and the mid-summer school break — while the weather barely changes. Hawaii's seasonal temperature range is small; what actually varies is rainfall, surf and price, and all three favour the shoulder months.

What is the rainy season in Hawaii?

Roughly November to March, though it rarely means all-day rain — showers pass through, often heaviest overnight and on the windward side. The leeward resort coasts where most visitors stay receive a fraction of the windward totals in any month, which is why a wet forecast for an island is a poor guide to your actual beach.

Is Hawaii better in summer or winter?

Why is one side of a Hawaiian island so much wetter?

The trade winds blow steadily from the north-east and are forced upward by the mountains, cooling and dropping their moisture on the windward slopes. The air descends warm and dry on the far side, creating a rain shadow. The effect is strong enough that annual rainfall can differ several-fold within a few miles.

Does it rain every day in Hawaii?
